Winston-Salem, N.C. — A shooting at a local apartment complex Friday night left one woman dead and another seriously injured, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and a possible victim around 9:21 p.m. at the 2400 block of Old Greensboro Road. When they arrived at 2425 Old Greensboro Road, they discovered 50-year-old Pariss Tucker Baines inside her apartment, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Authorities say Baines had originally been outside when she was struck by gunfire. Bystanders reportedly helped move her into her residence, where emergency medical personnel later pronounced her dead at the scene. Her family has been notified.
Police also located a second woman in a separate apartment who had been shot while inside her home. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials say she sustained serious injuries but remains in stable condition.
Investigators believe the shooting resulted from an exchange of gunfire between two groups in a parking lot. Detectives do not think either woman was the intended target.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with details is urged to contact Winston-Salem police at 336-773-7700
