Edward Jeffery Jones, a newly elected Forsyth County Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor, has been indicted on three election-related charges and violations of the state’s sex offender registry. Authorities say Jones falsely claimed residency in Forsyth County while living in Davie County, failed to disclose his felony conviction when filing for candidacy, and illegally voted in Forsyth County.
Jones, a registered sex offender from New Jersey, was previously convicted in Forsyth County for failing to register and served over two years in prison before his release in December 2021. He was arrested Monday and is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neal emphasized the importance of voters researching candidates before elections. Jones is scheduled to appear in court on February 28 for failure to register as a sex offender and on March 3 in Superior Court for the election fraud charges.
