Joseph Marshall Blevins, 47, of Walkertown, received a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty on July 7 to nine counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months to 20 years and 4 months, suspended, and placed on 3 years of supervised probation. Blevins also received 80 days in custody but was released due to time already served. He was arrested in April after Forsyth County deputies received cyber tips and later found over 50 explicit images of children, ages 8 to 14, on his phone. Blevins is now a registered sex offender.

Winston-Salem police recovered a body from Salem Lake Thursday morning after receiving a report around 8:30 a.m. A section of the Salem Lake Trail and marina was closed during the investigation, which is being treated as a death investigation. Authorities are working to identify the person and ask anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

A 19-year-old, Mickey James Dewalt Jr., has been arrested and charged with murder and armed robbery in the shooting death of Jacob Riley Diehl, 20, in Winston-Salem. The incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday at 201 Dalewood Drive, where Diehl was found shot and later pronounced dead. Investigators say Dewalt stole drugs from Diehl at gunpoint before fatally shooting him. Dewalt is being held without bond and is due in Forsyth District Court on July 17.

A Winston-Salem man, Dangelo Scales, 32, was arrested Wednesday on a murder charge after barricading himself inside a home on East 23rd Street for several hours. Scales is a suspect in the May 24 shooting death of Alex Devonte Saunders, who was found with fatal gunshot wounds on Piedmont Circle. When officers arrived to arrest Scales, he refused to come out, leading to the involvement of the SWAT team. The standoff ended around 5:30 p.m. with Scales’ arrest. He faces felony murder and possession of a firearm by a felon charges. Scales was previously convicted of breaking and entering in 2015 and served prison and probation time. He is being held in Forsyth County Jail with no bond on the murder charge and a $15,000 bond for the gun possession offense.

A Randolph County man, Dylan Cole Jennings, 26, was arrested after allegedly firing a handgun into a vehicle occupied by two men on Interstate 74 West in Winston-Salem. The incident occurred at 9:20 a.m. while the two men, Michael Patrick Malloy Jr. and Jordan Rache Aikens, were traveling in a work van. According to police, Jennings was driving recklessly near the van before shooting into it. Neither of the men was injured. After receiving a description of the suspect and vehicle, officers located Jennings’ vehicle at a business on West Clemmonsville Road and took him into custody. Jennings faces charges including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle, and discharging a gun within city limits. He is being held without bond at the Forsyth County Jail.

A Winston-Salem man has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of his mother last July. Joshua Isiah Ross, 23, entered the plea on Monday and was sentenced to 10 years and 5 months to nearly 13 years and 9 months. He received credit for the nearly two years he spent in jail awaiting trial.

Alexandra Patton was sentenced Monday to 51 to 74 months in prison after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact to second-degree murder in the January 2024 shooting death of 21-year-old Damilyon Raekwon Monroe in Clemmons.

A Winston-Salem man, Matthew Morris, has been sentenced to 10–13 years in prison after pleading guilty in connection to a 2021 fatal shooting. The charges include voluntary manslaughter, discharging a firearm into an occupied property, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and attaining habitual felon status.

Winston-Salem police arrested 21-year-old Caleb Charles Hutchins in connection with the armed robbery of the BP gas station at 701 Jonestown Road on Friday night. Hutchins was located during a search at a residence in East Bend and charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon. The suspect allegedly entered the store around 8:05 p.m., demanding money and cigarettes before fleeing with an unknown amount. He is being held in the Forsyth County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Two men were injured Wednesday after a stolen vehicle being pursued by Winston-Salem police crashed into their car. The chase began around 6:33 p.m. on North Cleveland Avenue when officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, which fled after striking a patrol car.The chase ended at East 25th Street and North Jackson Avenue when the fleeing car collided with another vehicle. One man in the struck car declined medical treatment, while the other was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Three men in the stolen vehicle—Aki Jama Sincere Hannah (21), Edwin Graciano (23), and Jermaine Derelle Stubbs Jr. (25)—were hospitalized. Police believe Hannah was the driver. Stubbs, already a convicted felon, faces charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and illegal firearms. He remains in the Forsyth County Jail under a $51,000 bond and is due in court June 6.

FORSYTH COUNTY – A former Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) Detention Officer has been charged with Introducing Contraband into a Detention Center.An investigation was launched after information was received that unauthorized items were being taken into the Forsyth County Detention Center. The information initially suggested the name of an FCSO employee, Bryant Wilson Reid, might be involved. An internal administrative investigation and a criminal investigation were immediately initiated whereby Mr. Reid was placed on administrative leave on Friday, February 14, 2025, as is customary. On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Mr. Reid was terminated from employment with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Reid began his employment with the FCSO on January 8, 2024, as a Detention Officer.In our continued commitment to transparency, FCSO Criminal Investigators presented evidence to the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office and as such, Mr. Reid has been charged and arrested. Bryant Wilson Reid, a 46-year-old black male from Archdale, was charged with one (1) count of Introducing Contraband to a Detention Center (NCGS 14-258.1). Mr. Reid received a $20,000 secured bond, and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 13, 2025, at the Forsyth County Hall of Justice in Courtroom 308.“We are committed to the safety and security of the persons in our care at the Detention Center. We will pursue truth and justice no matter what or who it affects. We continue to stand on what is moral, what is legal, and what is right – even when it impacts an FCSO staff member. Edward Jeffery Jones, a newly elected Forsyth County Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor, has been indicted on three election-related charges and violations of the state’s sex offender registry. Authorities say Jones falsely claimed residency in Forsyth County while living in Davie County, failed to disclose his felony conviction when filing for candidacy, and illegally voted in Forsyth County.Jones, a registered sex offender from New Jersey, was previously convicted in Forsyth County for failing to register and served over two years in prison before his release in December 2021. He was arrested Monday and is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neal emphasized the importance of voters researching candidates before elections. Jones is scheduled to appear in court on February 28 for failure to register as a sex offender and on March 3 in Superior Court for the election fraud charges.
